  • The Charlotte Hornets donated $25,000 to the Charleston Boys & Girls Club to support local youth programs — officials said the contribution will boost after-school activities and community resources.   • U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson visited the International African American Museum on Sept. 1 and toured exhibits with museum leaders and her husband before the new term began. The museum presented her with a sweetgrass necklace that honors African American history—underscoring its role in preserving shared stories.  ABC 4 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • South Carolina teachers and principals from 39 Title I schools received a portion of a $4.6 million merit bonus program through Beemok Education — with an average bonus of $8,800 and a top bonus of $57,250 that a Charleston teacher called life-changing. The awards reward improvements in student performance and have fueled debate over whether merit pay should supplement broader salary increases for all educators.  Charleston City Paper

  • This past Saturday in North Charleston, community members joined the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, walking a two-mile route with live music and breakfast at the finish line — organizers said the event raised funds and awareness to support those impacted by breast cancer.  Count On 2

  • South Carolina Stingrays announced Saturday that eight players have been loaned to the team ahead of training camp—among them forward Kaden Bohlsen and defenseman John Fusco—and that additional players released from Hershey tryouts will report soon.   • At halftime Friday night, James Island High School honored two state championship teams by awarding nearly 70-year-old rings to surviving players and families in recognition of wins in 1956 and 1964 — a long-overdue tribute that unites the island’s football legacy.  ABC 4 News
