  • REV Federal Credit Union employees volunteered yesterday at over 25 local charities where they logged 10,000 hours of service during their Day of Good project. BUSINESS NEWS

  • Keel is investing $67 million to expand its Yonges Island shipyard in Meggett and add 170 new jobs as work began on a state-of-the-art prep and paint facility to support U.S. Navy submarine and carrier production + the expansion will boost local manufacturing capacity.  Charleston Regional Business Journal
  • Google announced today a two-year plan to invest $9 billion to expand its cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure in Dorchester County and support the local workforce for long-term growth. The investment follows last year's $2 billion data center project and is expected to boost economic opportunities in the region.  Charleston Regional Business Journal
  • Art Nichols, owner of Nichols Equipment in Moncks Corner, said his business suffers from persistent flooding after new homes replaced former wetlands—blocked drainage now costs him $850 to $900 after heavy rains. Town and county officials are working on a stormwater management plan to resolve the issue—Nichols hopes the plan comes soon.  Count On 2
  • Charleston craft brewers are facing rising costs and supply challenges — they are planning new steps to keep their business thriving and offer more choices to local beer fans.  Live 5 News

  • Dozens attended a candidate forum in Goose Creek hosted by the Berkeley County GOP—where candidates answered questions and shared their plans with local voters.  Live 5 News
  • South Carolina Ports named a new leader in an interview with Jessica Holdman from the South Carolina Daily Gazette. Holdman also explained updates on the Canadys gas pipeline + plans for statewide broadband expansion.  South Carolina ETV
  • South Carolina officials are encouraging residents to review their safety plans as Earthquake Preparedness Week runs from October 12–18. A global drill is set for October 16 at 10:16 a.m.—participants will practice drop, cover, and hold on to be ready if a quake strikes.  South Carolina ETV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Charleston doctors are urging women to begin breast cancer screenings at a younger age than current guidelines recommend—experts believe early detection may lead to better treatment outcomes.  Live 5 News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Charleston County Planning Commission narrowly approved a new rezoning application for a family-owned horse farm on Johns Island, which will allow up to 100 townhomes—15 of them deed-restricted for affordable housing. The request will be reviewed further at a public hearing on Nov. 13 and by the Planning and Public Works Committee on Nov. 20 before final council approval.  ABC 4 News
