Good morning, Charleston. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 7th of April.

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • One person died when a Harley Davidson motorcycle went off US-27 and struck a barrier wall near Ridgeville at 9:55 p.m. Saturday night, and the highway patrol is investigating the incident (the victim has not yet been identified).  ABC 4 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Restaurant owners and wine importers said that a 20% tariff applied on April 2 has raised concerns about a potential 200% tariff—an increase that could force them to raise wine prices and risk pushing diners to stay home. They noted that higher wine costs would shrink wine-by-the-glass programs and further squeeze the narrow profit margins of local restaurants.  Charleston City Paper

CRIME NEWS

  • The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office asked for help to locate 15-year-old Earl Fields III who left his Sheldon area home on Saturday around noon and was last seen wearing black Dickies shorts, a black Dickies shirt, and a blue hat (he is 5'7" and 130 lbs with black twisted hair and brown eyes); anyone with information should call 843-524-2777.  ABC 4 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • DIS 5th grader Eloise Fetzer played steady golf yesterday at Augusta National and tied for second at the Drive, Chip & Putt Finals with 19 points—falling just short of Florida’s winning score of 25. She reached the national event after winning local, subregional and regional competitions last year.  The Daniel Island News
  • The Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston drew 35,000 racers last weekend as local race officials confirmed a record turnout (the course ran along the river). Organizers said the race data (which showed faster finish times among top athletes) will help plan future runs.  Live 5 News
  • Jessica Pegula won her first Credit One Charleston Open final on Sunday by defeating Sofia Kenin in straight sets—6-3 in the first and 7-5 in the second.  ABC 4 News
