  • The North Charleston Boys and Girls Club received a $25,000 donation from the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday at Bridge View Elementary Charter to boost a mobile computer lab for local children. Mayor Reggie Burgess thanked the Hornets for their support—calling the gift a blessing for the community.  ABC 4 News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire broke out on Edisto Island at Circuit Court Judge Diane Goodstein’s home on Oct 4, injuring three people including her husband—a former state senator rescued by neighbors from marshy terrain—and state investigators are now examining the cause.  The Post and Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • Folly Beach hosted the 2025 Mermaids & Mateys festival with local vendors, music and family fun; the event raised funds for the Alzheimer’s Association by donating a portion of ticket sales.  Live 5 News
  • Michael Allen, who worked nearly 40 years with the National Park Service and helped create the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor, spoke at Charleston City Market about preserving Lowcountry history – he now runs Tastee Treats with his wife and worries new federal changes may erase important parts of the past.  The Post and Courier
  • A recent episode of Futurama spoofed South of the Border—a famous roadside attraction on I-95—by showing a changed sign that reads 'South of the Bordersphere' and the episode aired on Sept. 15. A Hulu representative confirmed the sign was modeled after the real landmark that has guided drivers since 1949.  The Post and Courier

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center now say a tropical wave in the Atlantic has a 70% chance of developing into at least a tropical depression in the next week — the system is expected to be the season’s 10th tropical depression as it moves quickly across the central Atlantic, and its effect on the southeast remains uncertain.  Live 5 News

  • On Sunday, the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Charlotte Hornets 135 to 114 at North Charleston Coliseum before a record crowd—Aaron Wiggins scored 23 and Chris Youngblood added 20 while the team played without key players including last year’s MVP Shai Gilgeous Alexander.  Live 5 News
